The Los Angeles Chargers are set to hire Robert Muschamp to their staff as a quality control coach, sources told On3’s Matt Zenitz Thursday. Muschamp spent last two seasons on the staff at Georgia alongside his uncle, Will Muschamp.

Muschamp played football at Auburn from 2015-18, mostly on special teams as a tight end. He then became a graduate assistant at Tennessee for two years before latching on at Georgia ahead of the 2021 season.

Muschamp is the latest Georgia staffer to leave for the NFL. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken was named the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator earlier this week, leading the Bulldogs to promote Mike Bobo to the role. It will be Bobo’s second stint as offensive coordinator after previously holding the role from 2007-14.

Kirby Smart, Georgia formally announce Mike Bobo as new offensive coordinator

Georgia made it official Tuesday. After Todd Monken’s departure for the NFL, Mike Bobo is taking over as offensive coordinator.

Kirby Smart made the announcement Tuesday morning and provided a statement on the transition. Monken is heading back to the NFL, where he spent four seasons before taking over at Georgia in 2019, and Bobo will take back the role he held from 2007-14 at his alma mater.

“We are extremely thankful and appreciative of the three years Todd and his wife, Terri, have spent with our UGA family,” Smart said in a statement. “We wish them the best as he moves on to the Ravens organization.

“I am excited to name Mike Bobo our next Offensive Coordinator. Mike has a decade of experience as a successful SEC play-caller and over 20 years spent at UGA, both as a player and coach. Mike was an excellent addition to our staff last year as an analyst, and we are looking forward to his expanded leadership on the offensive side of the ball.”

Bobo left after the 2014 season to become the head coach at Colorado State, where he worked from 2015-19 and amassed a 28-35 overall record and a 20-20 mark in Mountain West action. After parting ways with the Rams, he spent a year as the offensive coordinator and eventually interim head coach at South Carolina in 2020. From there, he went to Auburn under Bryan Harsin, where he spent 2021 before his firing after the season.

Monken’s name has been a hot one in league circles this offseason after helping the Bulldogs to their second consecutive national championship. He also interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for whom he worked from 2016-18 before arriving in Athens.
