Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett discussed his relationship with his teammate JT Daniels as both quarterbacks have taken starts for No. 1 Georgia this season. Bennett has been filling in for Daniels after an injury has kept him sidelined. In Bennett’s time as starter, Georgia has continued their dominance and undefeated season behind great play from their supposed backup quarterback.

Stetson Bennett’s relationship with JT Daniels

Following the Bulldogs’ dominant 43-6 win over Missouri on Saturday, Stetson Bennett spoke in a postgame press conference about the relationship he shares with JT Daniels. Bennett was asked if he was able to share any advice or insights with Daniels as he entered the game late.

“We talk about every series coming off the field, about what I saw or what he saw from the sideline,” answered Bennett. “Usually we both have the same ideas but sometimes somebody else sees something that the other person doesn’t see. We’re always communicating. Just trying to help each other and by doing that, help the entire team.”

Daniels finished the day 7-of-11 for 782 yards, a touchdown and an interception, as the pair of quarterbacks split snaps for the first time since Georgia’s blowout win over Vanderbilt.

“It was cool,” Bennett said about how it felt to see Daniels back on the field and playing at quarterback. “Any time somebody else goes in there and has success — it’s cool. We’re buddies and we’re friends — yeah, it was pretty cool to see him out there.”

As Daniels continues to come back from injury, Georgia may now have a real quarterback decision to make as they close out their season. While Daniels was their starter originally, Bennett has been extremely impressive in relief.

Bennett’s passing efficiency for their three games starting in October—all against top 20 teams at the time in Arkansas, Auburn and Kentucky—ranks sixth nationally at 188.37.

Kirby Smart on preparing Daniels to return

Head coach Kirby Smart was asked during his press conference specifically if the coaching staff is doing anything to ensure Daniels keeps his confidence high moving forward.

“Yeah I think most of that comes from reps in practice, right,” Smart responded. “You get confidence from repetition. Repetition is the mother of all skills.”

JT Daniels made a few solid throws, but still looked off. He missed on a few rhythm throws, including an interception when the Bulldogs were driving.

Smart then added Daniels gets plenty of work in practice and noted he has the utmost confidence in him.

“And he gets reps, he works at it,” Smart said.

“He gets competitive reps against our defense, you know confidence is not given. Confidence is something that is earned by how you work. I think JT has a lot of confidence in himself. I stand by him sitting here and talking about it. I think he has tremendous confidence.”
