Stetson Bennett IV forever cemented his legacy in Georgia Bulldogs lore with his magical performance in his team’s 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide. It takes plenty of mind-blowing athletes to dethrone the mighty dynasty that is Alabama football under Nick Saban. Recently, Bennett shared a funny story about how he was blown away by the speed of the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, former Bulldog Travon Walker when they raced last year.

“I can beat a lot of dudes [laughs]. Ladd’s [McConkey] got me. Ladd’s got me. I might have Dan [Jackson] though. I don’t know. We haven’t really raced. I don’t know it’s just usually fun and games. You know racing. God, I remember running against Travon [Walker] last year though,” the Georgia quarterback said.

“That was embarrassing. To be my size and I think I’m pretty quick and running and looking to my right and I see 6’6, 270 [pounds] keeping up with me. And I’m like good lord, man. Who are you? There’s guys like that on the team, too. The sprints, to make conditioning a little bit easier, we’ll point and be like, ‘I got you right here. We’ll race. Let’s race.’ Just to make it more competitive and fun,” Bennett said.

Stetson Bennett recently reminisced about the turning point in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship

The Georgia quarterback recently discussed the remarkably strong bond he has with his offensive coordinator, Todd Monken. Bennett remembered a key moment in the title game vs. Alabama when a play didn’t go their way. However, the two had enough faith in one another to re-focus, get back out there, and punch back.

“I don’t know if there was a specific moment, per se. I’d say it was last year during the season. But for sure after I fumbled that ball in the National Championship. And then, I mean, we just went out and ripped it.”

Bennett is really fond of that moment. Shows the sort of resilience he and his offensive coordinator are made of.

“That was strong. I didn’t know that was coming. But when it did, we executed and guys made plays. I mean, I had awesome protection. But to call those plays in that situation after what had just happened — first of all, you’re putting yourself on the table. And second of all, it shows that…hey, we’re not just going to bow to this. We’re going to try to win the game.”

That moment, and obviously that game, was defining not just for the Georgia football program. But for the two dudes at the helm of that offense: Stetson Bennett IV and Todd Monken.
