No. 1 Georgia has jumped out to an early 21-0 lead over SEC East foe South Carolina in the middle of the second quarter, which might mean a short day for the starting quarterback. Following a touchdown pass to tight end Brock Bowers for the third Bulldogs touchdown of the day, ESPN’s camera crew caught Stetson Bennett IV throwing up on the field.

Bennett clearly looked a little bit off as he headed to the sidelines, and ESPN’s broadcast crew led by commentator Sean McDonough quickly followed up.

“Well, Sean, quarterback Stetson Bennett actually got sick after that scoring play and came over to the sideline and yelled in frustration with his head down,” sideline reporter Molly McGrath said. “He’s been taking oxygen all game from their very first drive, and athletic training staff was pouring water and cool towels on his neck, but I’m told he’s fine and will return in this game, Sean.”

The cameras then panned to Bennett placing a clear oxygen mask over his face on the Georgia bench, as McDonough added some follow-up commentary.

“As fine as someone who threw up all over the field can be,” McDonough said. “He must have been sick coming here. It’s not, as we said at the outset, a really hot day. It’s 84 degrees right now, moderate humidity.”

Despite throwing up, Stetson Bennett IV sharp again

If the Georgia quarterback is a bit under the weather on Saturday it’s been hard to tell outside of the shot the ESPN camera crew caught.

Bennett began the game 10-of-14 passing for 125 yards and one touchdown, as of this writing. He also returned to the game for the drive following the touchdown pass to Bowers, seemingly OK.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a very early lead, scoring a touchdown on a Bowers’ 5-yard touchdown run to cap a 10-play, 82-yard drive in the first quarter. Georgia added another first-quarter score when running back Kendall Milton ran in from 1 yard out after a five-play, 43-yard drive.

Bowers added the third touchdown on an incredibly impressive grab on a lofted ball to the left corner of the end zone from Bennett, managing to haul in the pass under excellent coverage and tap both feet in bounds for the score.

The 21-0 lead has Georgia in excellent position to continue its unblemished start to the season, which began with a bang in a 49-3 win over a ranked Oregon team two weeks ago.
