Kansas coach Lance Leipold was pretty high on Isaiah Marshall throughout the recruiting process. The 2024 recruit made it official with the Jayhawks last week.

The future of the program is now in the building. Leipold is a fan of how humble Marshall is and how he’ll keep his head down and keep working.

If he’s anything like a certain Kansas quarterback, then the Jayhawks could be in good hands with Marshall.

“He has a lot of similarities, I think, like Jalon (Daniels),” Leipold said. “Ithink people can see that with some of his highlights. Spending time and talking with his uncles and having coaches there, but even the other coaches that are there and they talk about his demeanor, his composure. And even as we’re talking, everybody’s patting him on the back about everything he’s done, and he just stays so consistent. And it’s really neat, you know, he’s not acknowledging some of the extra stuff. And he’s humble.”

With that humbleness comes competitiveness with Marshall.

“But he’s highly competitive and all those things,” Leipold said. “And then before he came here the first time you know, he talked about what he liked and then somebody else from his family came the next time and he was starting to feel it. And he stayed true to that and he found a place that was a great fit for him not just on the field on offense schematically (but he did) in every way shape and form and he’s got a great family and support system.”

As a member of the Class of 2024, Marshall was a three-star recruit out of Southfield (Mich.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 16 overall prospect in the state, the No. 44 quarterback in the class and the No. 677 overall prospect in the class.

The oft-injured Daniels was great when he was on the field for Kansas. So if the Jayhawks have the next version of that coming to campus, it could be a great tenure.

When Daniels was at his best, he threw for 2,014 yards, 18 touchdowns, four interceptions, a 66.1% completion percentage, 425 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.

Marshall didn’t get immense high school accolades across the country, but for a coach like Leipold, Kansas can work with that.
