K-State has extended offers to two local Kansas City area stars in the 2023 class.

The Wildcats first offered rising Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley junior receiver Andre Davis this past Thursday. The offer from the Wildcats was quickly countered by an offer from the Kansas Jayhawks.

On Saturday, K-State then offered a scholarship to Liberty, Mo., do-it-all junior athlete Ricky Ahumaraeze.

Both offers put the Wildcats right in the thick of things for the Kansas City area stars.

K-State first to offer Andre Davis

Andre Davis is the son of former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Willie Davis. Willie Davis played for Kansas City from 1991-1995. His son relocated from the Houston area just weeks before the start of his junior season.

Davis is easily 6-foot-4 and is listed at 200 pounds. He’s quickly become a top weapon for the Tigers, who are 6-1 on the season. They’re also ranked as one of the top teams in the Sunflower State.

Davis has 22 receptions for 397 yards and one touchdown. He averages 18 yards a reception. Davis has also earned praise from his coaching staff for his blocking ability in the Tigers’ run-based offense.

The K-State offer is intriguing because Davis is teammates with K-State receiver commitment Sterling Lockett, and the Wildcats have recruited Blue Valley hard over the years.

Davis is part of a push by the Wildcats to win more local recruiting wars. The first few seasons under Chris Kleiman have seen a number of the top prospects in Kansas flock to other schools.

The Wildcats have been pushing hard with top local juniors. This includes hosting top 40 overall prospect Chandavian Bradley for the second time this season. Plus, other top juniors like quarterback Avery Johnson and running back Dylan Edwards were on campus for the Iowa State game.

K-State currently does not have any commitments yet for the 2023 class.

Wildcats jump in for Ricky Ahumaraeze

The Wildcats’ offer to Ricky Ahumaraeze out of Liberty is another example of the push to do better with local recruits.

Ahumaraeze stars on both sides of the ball for the Blue Jays. He is the team’s leading receiver with 480 yards receiving and four touchdown grabs in eight games. He is also third on the team with 44 tackles, plus he has one interception on the season.

Ahumaraeze has been getting the full-court press from the Wildcats early on in the process. K-State’s pursuit has kicked up another notch with the offer.

Ahumaraeze is somewhat overshadowed by coveted receiver junior receiver Jaidyn Doss at Raymore-Peculiar. But his stock is on the rise. He has all the tools to be a double-digit offer type of prospect.

Ahumaraeze’s teammate, offensive lineman Michael Capria, is a preferred walk-on commitment for the Wildcats.
