Kansas State offensive tackle Cooper Beebe took a trip down memory lane and shared with us a memory from his recruitment trips. On Tuesday at the Wildcats media access, Beebe admitted that he was a fan of in-state rival Kansas. But on a recruiting trip to Kansas, one coach helped him choose what Kansas school to attend.

“I was a KU fan when I was growing up and you know on one of my visits, you know I’m not going to say that coach name is not there, but he actually told me not to go there. So that was one of my, you know, deciding factor is not go there,” said Beebe.

Coming into the season On3’s Ian Boyd ranked him eighth-highest among Big 12 left tackles and had this to say about him.

“Beebe is a much better tackle than I expected for a 6-foot-3, 320-pound fireplug. He played a lot of right tackle last season for the Wildcats and was really quite effective due to his quick feet. I don’t know if the reach is great but he’s quick enough to be hard to get around and there’s no going through him. He reminds me of Cody Whitehair, who played left tackle for K-State back in the Snyder days because he was their best lineman even though he’d measure at the combine at 6-foot-4, 301 pounds with 32 ⅜” arms. The Chicago Bears took him in the second round, moved him to guard, and he made a Pro Bowl.”

Tale of two Kansas’ schools

Kansas State is 5-3 on the season and is currently on a two-game winning streak. After starting the year on fire going 3-0, Wildcats ran into three of the upper echelon teams of the Big 12. They have lost to Oklahoma State (31-20), Oklahoma (37-31), and Iowa State (33-20) in that order. But Kansas State bounced back in the last two weeks beating Texas Tech (25-24) and TCU (31-12).

For Kansas, their season is going as expected. After starting off the season 1-0 with a victory over South Dakota, they have lost every game since then. The Jayhawks are currently on a seven-game losing streak, which includes a 55-3 loss to Oklahoma State last week.

Beebe’s remarks come just before both the teams are set to face off, this Saturday. By the looks of it, whatever coach who warned the lineman gave him some insightful intel. And instead of playing for a team struggling to find its identity all the way around, he is at a program that is vying for a quality bowl game this year.
