College football teams across the country are in the middle of spring practices and gearing up for the upcoming 2024-2025 campaign. The Kentucky Wildcats are coming off a 7-6 season last year, which they finished with a tough loss to the Clemson Tigers in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. On the Thursday edition of The Paul Finebaum Show, Wildcats receiver Dane Key discussed the excitement surrounding their upcoming schedule in the SEC, with the new additions of Texas and Oklahoma.

What are his thoughts on the new schedule with the additions of the Longhorns and Sooners?

“I think it’s an awesome opportunity that Texas and Oklahoma are now in the SEC. And just another great game to add to the schedule for every team in the SEC, because those are two great opponents. And everybody’s gonna be looking forward to playing with them. I think we’re gonna be super excited to play there, but myself, my team, we’re not looking too much into that game right now,” Key said.

The past two seasons, Key hauled in over 500 yards for the Wildcats. Last year, he hauled in 42 catches for 636 yards and six touchdowns. In 2022, he hauled in 37 catches for 519 yards and six touchdowns.

“We’re still worried about competing against each other right now in spring. So, we’re just really excited to keep going against each other every day in practice. And getting better and building that chemistry with the offensive side of the ball. You know, the defense is still doing their thing. We’re just super excited about this season. We’re gonna take it one game at a time, but having those two teams in the SEC is a great opportunity for every team in the SEC,” Key said on The Paul Finebaum Show.

Kentucky will welcome the Texas Longhorns into the SEC by facing them on Saturday, November 23rd. UK will not face Oklahoma.

The Wildcats are currently preparing for their Blue-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 13th. Kick is set for 1:00 PM EST. The game will be televised on SEC Network-plus or ESPN-plus.

The toughest test of Kentucky’s 2024 season will undoubtedly be the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs. While Georgia just missed out on completing a historic three-peat last year, the Bulldogs return plenty of talent and they finished their season with an absolute thrashing of the Florida State Seminoles in their bowl game.

Georgia is still a mighty, mighty football machine. There’s a reason they are the top-ranked team in America.
