Devin Leary took some time to shoutout his wide receivers as he prepares for his first season with the Kentucky Wildcats.

What a difference a year makes, as at this time in 2022 Leary was leading the NC State Wolfpack. Now firmly entrenched in Lexington, it’s evident the star quarterback is excited with who he’ll be throwing the ball to in 2023.

“I think someone that stands out on film is Anthony Brown, for sure, and you know, even sometimes you forget how young Dane Key is. It’s only his second year playing college football, but he carries himself like a vet,” explained the Kentucky quarterback. “Then even guys like Khamari Anderson, Josh Kattus. It’s really cool to see them you know, wanting to take that next step for this season.”

That’s a nice group of talented pass catchers the Wildcats have assembled. Leary can sling the rock all over the field, so they’ll have plenty of opportunities to make their names known in households throughout the country, especially if Kentucky reaches their lofty expectations.

Continuing, Leary is expected to be a leader for the team, and he recognizes that the Wildcats are taking to him quite nicely in that respect, something he doesn’t take for granted.

“I’m definitely honored to just be welcomed by these guys in the first place,” he said of his fellow players when meeting with the media recently.

The Kentucky QB then went on to explain the challenge of spending so much time at one school before trying to come in and take over a new team for one final year.

“You know, it definitely was new for me to transfer, leaving a school that I’m an alumni of and coming in and trying to be the quarterback here,” Leary said. “You know, it could be challenging, it could be something that’s looked at as a huge challenge, but something that I truly embraced and something that I really wanted to take on.”

Experts believe Leary is fit for the challenge, and Kentucky fans are hoping he can replicate his efforts with the Wolfpack, where Leary was superb. He was especially great in 2021, when he was upright for the whole season and put up 3,433 yards and 35 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He’s also got career TD-to-INT numbers of 62-to-16 through his four years.

Time will tell if Devin Leary can be the revelation many are expecting for Kentucky, but the talent is there, it’s just a question of whether it all comes together for him.
