Amoore is coming off her biggest season yet, averaging 18.8 points and 6.8 assists – both career-highs – as Virginia Tech went 25-8 overall and 14-4 in ACC play. The Hokies saw their season come to an end against Baylor in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and Brooks left for Kentucky shortly thereafter.

Even before the entered the portal – and with the opportunity to declare for the WNBA Draft – Amoore took to social media to pen a goodbye to Virginia Tech after her four years.

“What a ride these past four years have been,” Amoore wrote. “But it’s time to say goodbye. It’s been a blessing to be part of this family. I’ve built a home here in Blacksburg and lifelong friendships that I’ll always hold close. Special thank you to my coaches for their love and support. Lots of hugs to my teammates who have gifted me the memories of a lifetime. There aren’t enough words in the world that can express the gratitude I have for this place.

“Because this place… Will always be home.”

After she released her message, Amoore then hit the portal with a “Do Not Contact” tag. She’ll now play her final year under Brooks, only now wearing Kentucky Blue.

Kenny Brooks wants to wake ‘sleeping giant’

Brooks spent eight seasons at Virginia Tech before leaving for Kentucky. He took the Hokies to three straight NCAA Tournaments, including a Final Four appearance a year ago with Georgia Amoore leading the charge, while amassing a 180-82 record in Blacksburg.

Now at Kentucky, he said the goal is simple.

“As I continued to research everything about Kentucky — I know that the academics here are wonderful,” Brooks said. “I know that the fan base is very passionate, I know that the resources will allow you to get to a level where you can compete with anyone.

“I know it’s in a rich history of the SEC. And the SEC’s leadership and where it’s going, you want to be aligned with that to try to create something very, very special. When I added all that up, what I came up with was it’s gonna be a sleeping giant. And it just needs to be awakened.”
