Andrew Carr signs with Kentucky

On Tuesday, Adam Zagoria reported Kentucky has reached out to Miami transfer guard Wooga Poplar. He is the No. 37 player in On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

Poplar spent three seasons with the Hurricanes. This past season, Poplar started all 29 games he appeared in for the team, averaging 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 42.6% from the field and 38.5% from beyond the arc.

In three seasons at Miami, Poplar amassed 100 appearances and 65 starts. He averaged 7.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while connecting 36.5% of his 3-point attempts. Poplar has already reportedly heard from programs such as St. John’s, Kansas, Ole Miss and Florida State since entering the transfer portal.

Poplar played high school basketball at Math, Civics and Sciences Charter School (PA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 108 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Poplar is only Kentucky’s latest target in the transfer portal. Since head coach Mark Pope replaced John Calipari, he has been active on the transfer trail. Kentucky has now added Amari Williams (Drexel), Lamont Butler (San Diego State), Otega Oweh (Oklahoma), Andrew Carr (Wake Forest) and Brandon Garrison (Oklahoma State) via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

During an appearance on Kentucky Sports Radio on Monday, Pope pulled back the curtain on the program’s roster construction.

“I’m really excited about where we are today,” Pope said. “It’s very artistic. It’s puzzle pieces. Every new piece kind of changes the picture, where you have to readjust and see what you’re looking for in the next piece.

“There’s so many things you don’t have control over,” Pope continued. “On our big board right now we’re actually working with 29 guys that we’ve really, really zeroed in on. Every time somebody bends a little bit in our direction or maybe fades a little bit out of our direction, we do more research and more reconnaissance and hear more information about guys and how they’re built. It doesn’t just change the picture for that guy but for all 30 guys.”

Evidently, Wooga Poplar is one of those 29 potential targets. Zagoria reported Poplar will “probably visit” Kentucky.
