Louisville HC Jeff Brohm On Jack Plummer And His Transition To Louisville

Jack Plummer and Jeff Brohm’s reunion in Louisville has been nothing short of special. Sitting at 5-0, the Louisville head coach joined On3’s Andy Staples to discuss Plummer’s start to the season.

“Jack was easy. That’s his strength. He’s very smart, very intelligent. He picks things up fast,” Brohm said. “Getting him back here was an easy transition. He’s been a great leader plays really hard. If he has any fault, he probably cares too much. Sometimes, he presses a little bit and forces things.

“But, you know what, he’ll continue to play well for us and battle through a little adversity here and there, and he’s battle tested. I just think he’s a guy you can depend on that will give you everything he has. It’s not always going to be perfect. But at the same time, he’s going to play to the end and he’s done a good job.”

Plummer first played for Brohm at Purdue. While there, Plummer played in 21 games with 13 starts. Over the final three seasons of his four campaigns at Purdue and completed 319-of-492 passes (64.8%) for 3405 yards with 26 touchdowns.

Nonetheless, after four successful seasons with the Boilermakers, Plummer went west, transferring to California. In his single season with the Golden Bears, the 6-foot-5 QB threw for 3,095 yards and 21 touchdowns, the sixth-most in a single season in program history.

With one year of eligibility remaining and Brohm entering his first season as Louisville’s head coach, the pair decided to reunite. The experiment has been a success thus far. In five games, Plummer boasts 86 completions for 1,406 passing yards and 11 touchdowns.

It’s worth noting Plummer has also thrown six interceptions, two in his most recent outing against NC State. However, Brohm claims he takes responsibility for some of these shortcomings.

“Looking back, I needed to do a better job to help protect him a little bit and not get him hit as much, so I was disappointed in myself,” Brohm said. “Anytime a quarterback is getting pressure and a guy is in his face, it’s gonna affect anybody and it definitely affected him.

“I should have done a better job. We should have a better plan together to counteract that. I think, moving forward, we got to make sure we always have that in our pocket that if somebody’s just gonna really, really heat us up. We’ve got to find ways to help our quarterback.”

Plummer will certainly face some heat this weekend. On Saturday, the Cardinals will square off against No. 10 Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
