Brian Kelly previews LSU vs. Auburn

LSU has some good news on its injury report for Week 7, as a few players who missed this past week are nearing a return. Tigers coach Brian Kelly revealed in his Monday press conference that linebacker Omar Speights, offensive lineman Charles Turner and receiver Aaron Anderson are all probable for the matchup against Auburn.

Unfortunately, the news wasn’t as good for receiver Chris Hilton, whom Kelly declared doubtful with a high ankle sprain.

“That high ankle has probably got him doubtful right now,” Kelly said.

Hilton suffered the injury on the final play of a Week 5 loss to Ole Miss. He was later seen in a walking boot and missed this past week against Missouri, and now it appears he will sit out a second straight game. The redshirt sophomore had appeared in all five games prior to his injury and has five catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Thankfully, the Tigers will get some depth back at receiver with the return of Anderson. The Alabama transfer has played a limited role so far this season with eight catches for 33 yards.

Turner suffered a knee injury this past week against Missouri, but after undergoing some tests over the weekend, it was determined not to be a serious issue. He has worked as LSU’s starting center as well as last year, so his probably status on the injury report is a big win.

Finally, the Tigers are set to return Speights after he has missed the past three games due to a hip flexor injury. The Oregon State grad transfer totaled 13 tackles through the first three contests of the season before suffering the injury.

LSU will kick off against Auburn at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

Greg Brooks continuing cancer treatments, has another surgery scheduled

Recently, football has not been the main focus of Brian Kelly and LSU. Everyone has been sending thoughts and prayers in the direction of defensive back Greg Brooks, as he dealing with a rare form of cancer called medulloblastoma. The diagnosis was revealed on Wednesday afternoon by the Brooks family and LSU Football.

Kelly was able to provide the latest update on Brooks on Monday, saying he has transferred hospitals. Another surgery is scheduled as well, with Kelly hoping it can be the beginning point of the battle Brooks has ahead of him.

“Greg has been transferred to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis,” Kelly said via the Paul Finebaum Show. “He’s a strong man and we’re hoping that this next surgery allows him to begin the next challenge of battling cancer.”
