After a hard-fought victory at home against Mississippi State, the LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly delivered a very special game ball. LSU’s victory against the Bulldogs was the first victory for the Tigers in conference play. But more importantly, it was Kelly’s first SEC win as a member of the conference. After the game, Kelly gave the game ball and some high praise to LSU’s starting quarterback Jayden Daniels. The Tigers headman presented him with the game ball in the locker room after the game but commemorated the moment with this photo and post from his social media account.

The Tigers’ offense started slow tonight, with the team falling into an early 13-0 hole at home. LSU showed perseverance and was able to cut Mississippi State’s lead down to six points at the half. But in the second half, mainly in the fourth quarter, the lights clicked on for the entire team, especially the offense. Daniels led the Tigers on three straight scoring drives in the fourth quarter, and the defense shut out the Bulldogs. LSU would go on to win by a score of 31-16.

LSU now climbs to 2-1 on the season and comes within inches of possibly being 3-0. Up next for LSU is their third and final nonconference game at home against New Mexico. After that, Kelly will get an opportunity for his second SEC victory as the Tigers’ head coach when they travel to Jordan-Hare stadium to take on the Auburn Tigers.

Daniels consistency for LSU

Daniels has consistently demonstrated his dual-threat ability in the early part of the season. In Saturday’s game against Mississippi State, he completed 22 of his 37 pass attempts for 210 yards and one touchdown. He also led the team in rushing yards and attempts with 16 carries for 93 yards and added one touchdown on the ground. His best trait so far is his ability to limit turnovers. Over the first three games of the season, Daniels has yet to commit a turnover.

The numbers Daniels has put up have not been jaw-dropping, eye-popping numbers, but there have been enough to help the Tigers’ offense stay afloat as they continue to build chemistry on the season. For the year, the junior transfer quarterback from Arizona State has completed 57 of his 82 pass attempts for 556 yards and five touchdowns through the air. On the ground, he has rushed the ball 35 times for 225 yards with the two rushing touchdowns.
