Former LSU Tigers quarterback Walker Howard may be off at a new campus after electing the transfer earlier in January, but he’s still appreciative of his time with the Tigers. On Monday, Howard pinned a letter thanking LSU, head coach Brian Kelly, and others for his time at the school and for making his dream to be a Tiger come true.

“As a kid, I have always dreamed of playing at LSU. I never imagined being anywhere else. However, when things happen in life, we have to adjust and keep moving forward,” said Howard via Twitter.

“With that being said, I have made the decision to leave LSU to look for the best spot for me to grow. This was a very difficult decision for me and my family. I can’t explain how thankful I am for all the relationships I have built at LSU. I want to thank coach Kelly and his staff for welcoming me with open arms and for always having my back. I am sad to leave my best friends and teammates, but I know that we will forever be friends. Thank you again, LSU.”

Once getting to LSU, Howard found himself third on the depth chart behind Garrett Nussmeier and starter Jayden Daniels. This season he was able to get his first college completions after throwing four passes, completing two, for seven yards in The Tigers bowl win against Purdue.

Both quarterbacks will return next season, leaving Howard with an uphill battle in the quarterback room. Kelly after the bowl game, he expected all three to return. Still, Howard has decided entering the portal will provide him with more opportunities to grow.

Howard played high school football at St. Thomas More High in Lafayette, LA, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No.45 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
