Is LSU capable of SHOCKING the SEC West again in 2023? | Can the Tigers top Nick Saban & Alabama

This season, LSU Tigers offensive lineman Will Campbell earned the honor to sport the No. 7. Several of his teammates are thrilled to see the honor bestowed upon him, but arguably none more prominent than LSU’s star quarterback Jayden Daniels.

“It’s great. It’s an honor that Will got that. I’m proud of him,” said Daniels. “He worked for it, especially being from Louisiana; you know he grew up watching those kinds of guys be No. 7. He’s a playmaker also. He might be a big guy, but he’s a playmaker.

“And it’s just an honor for him to get that; I’m proud of him for him to just go out there and put on for the No. 7. You know he’s a part of the tradition, but he also started a new tradition as the first lineman to wear the No. 7. I’m happy for him, and I’m ready to see what he does on Sunday.”

Campbell may be the first offensive lineman at LSU to put on the prestigious No. 7, but that does not mean that he is any less deserving. Last year, he was part of an offensive line unit that allowed Daniels to put together an impressive first season at LSU. And this year, Daniels is thrilled to pick up where he left off in 2022 behind the protection of Campbell.

One thing of note: despite earning the right to wear the No.7 in 2023, Campbell will not be able to wear the number due to NCAA number rules. Instead, he will have a patch on his uniform with the No. 7 on it.

LSU names team captains

Campbell received the honor of wearing the No. 7 jersey for LSU, but that wasn’t the only accolade he received. The Tigers have announced their captains ahead of their massive Week 1 season opener against the Florida State Seminoles. Tigers head coach Brian Kelly made the reveal from his social media account, naming four players as captains before Sunday night’s contest. Daniels and Campbell were named captains, along with safety Greg Brooks, and defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo.

On Sunday night, Step 3, LSU will look to avenge their tough 24-23 loss at the hands of Florida State in last year’s season opener. The Tigers, as well as the Seminoles, have huge expectations for the upcoming 2023 season, and this game they go a long way and determining LSU’s chance at reaching the College Football Playoff at the end of the season.
