Kirk Herbstreit Chris Fowler and Holly Rowe were the trio on the call for LSU‘s monumental overtime upset over Alabama Saturday night, and Herbstreit took to social media to let Tigers fans know just how appreciative he was to be able to witness the biggest win in Brian Kelly’s young tenure.

“What a night. @LSUfootball fans…thank you for a special night-such a scene.
Incredible honor for @cbfowler @sportsiren myself and our entire team to be there tonight.
Why we do what we do-hope for nights like this,” Herbstreit wrote. “Thank you!”

The game was tightly contested from the get-go, and LSU was able to pull the game out thanks to a gutsy play call from head coach Brian Kelly. The Tigers elected to go for the two-point conversion at the end of the first overtime, and quarterback Jayden Daniels hooked up with true freshman Mason Taylor for the game-winning play.

Fans stormed the field to celebrate the win, and LSU is now on top of the college football world following the 32-31 win.

Now, Alabama turns it’s sights toward next week’s road trip against a dangerous Ole Miss team. A win for either team will keep their chances at an SEC Championship Game appearance alive — and from there a potential shot at the College Football Playoff.

Likewise, Ole Miss also suffered defeat – the Rebels’ first and only loss of the season – against LSU. Alabama’s only losses on the year have been single-digit losses to Tennessee and LSU — both ranked in the top-ten in the first CFP rankings.

A strong showing for the Crimson Tide against Ole Miss would put them in back in second place in the SEC West. A collapse from LSU could see the Tide sneak into the SEC Championship game, and a win there could catapult Alabama to a top-four ranking when it’s all said and done.

With LSU in sole possession of first place in the SEC West, however, Alabama would need a total collapse of Brian Kelly’s squad one the next three weeks. Though, LSU’s schedule coming up is significantly easier than Alabama’s.

Still, the loss marks the third time in nine seasons that Alabama has dropped two regular season games in the same year. Both of those times before -2014 and 2019 – Alabama missed out on the College Football Playoff. LSU defeated the Tide in the latter, going on to win the College Football Playoff Championship.

The question remains, could history repeat itself?
