Loganville (Ga.) Grayson safety Michael Daugherty made his decision with his family a few weeks ago. The No. 244 overall prospect in the class of 2023 will line up for LSU next year.

Daugherty picked up his LSU hat on Tuesday. The Tigers held off a top seven of Auburn, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina and Texas.

The academics lined up with the football in Daugherty’s eyes. Daugherty holds around 40 offers and has been on countless recruiting visits. He’d narrowed down the things that were important to himself and his family.

“It was one of those heartfelt moments where I just looked it over with my parents and we had a talk,” Daugherty told On3. “We really sat there and thought it out. Then, we put our plan into motion and it came to fruition.”

He was recently in Baton Rouge for an official visit. The academics were some of the key ingredients he and his family were looking for down the stretch.

“The opportunity is positive in both aspects whether its the full student life and academics are well supported there,” Daughtery told On3. “Everything is a positive in all categories. It’s an environment that I can thrive in and further myself as a person.”

Daugherty has his eyes on trying to lead Grayson as a senior. Now that he’s committed, Daugherty considers the recruiting portion of his high school career wrapped up.

“I can be a real teammate and leader on my team as a senior,” Daugherty said. “I can be there for those guys with my full heart, body and spirit. Hopefully, I can have a great senior season.”

How will LSU use Michael Daugherty?

The Tigers will use the versatile four-star as a star and nickel defensive back. It’s similar to the role he’s played in his time at Grayson.
