All eyes at LSU were on the status of quarterback Jayden Daniels going into the annual rivalry game against Florida, but it turns out star running back Logan Diggs will actually miss the contest.

Sources informed On3’s Matt Zenitz that Diggs will miss the game.

The talented LSU runner leads the team’s backs in rushing, having piled up 635 yards and six touchdowns rushing on 113 carries. Only Daniels has run for more yardage, at 684 yards so far in 2023.

The loss of Diggs will force LSU’s offense to adjust, as he’s been a regular staple in the backfield since the first few weeks of the season.

Perhaps the bigger news, though, is that Daniels is set to suit up after suffering a concussion stemming from a hard hit against Alabama last weekend. The Heisman Trophy contender recovered quickly this week after going through all of the concussion protocol.

Jayden Daniels expected to start

Before the news that Logan Diggs would miss the contest broke, LSU coach Brian Kelly outlined the work that his quarterback had done during the week to get ready for the Florida contest after suffering the concussion.

“He worked out (Wednesday) morning and it appears as though that workout went well, which is the last stage before he’s cleared for non-contact practice,” Kelly said Wednesday on an SEC teleconference call. “So we’re expecting him to practice (Wednesday). If all things go well through practice (Wednesday) then he’ll be cleared for contact on Thursday.”

The talented LSU gunslinger is one of the nation’s best, in definite contention for the Heisman Trophy with only three weeks remaining in the regular season.

In nine games this season, Daniels has 2,792 yards, 27 touchdowns, four interceptions and a 72.1% completion percentage. He also has 684 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.

He’ll be needed more than ever with Logan Diggs out.

As a member of the Class of 2019, Daniels was a four-star recruit out of San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 7 overall prospect in the state, the No. 3 quarterback in the class and the No. 50 overall prospect in the class when he committed to Arizona State.
