It took former Louisiana wideout Kyren Lacy just four days to commit to LSU after entering the transfer portal in early January. Since, the junior has been making strides during practice in the hopes that he can crack the regular rotation out wide in head coach Brian Kelly’s offense. And according to Kelly, Lacy is almost there.

“We think Kyren certainly has the athletic ability – I think for Kyron, it’s at times – confidence is a choice,” Kelly said following practice Thursday. “He’s got to choose that every day. He’s got to play with great confidence. We can’t play with confidence for him, he’s got to do it himself. We really think he’s a great player, and some days he doesn’t bring that same mindset every day.

“We just need to encourage him to choose confidence every day, and if he does that, I think he’s gonna have a great season for us.”

Prior to arriving in Baton Rouge, Lacy made a big impact in Lafayette in just two years playing for the Ragin’ Cajuns. He caught a total of 50 passes for 668 yards and 10 touchdowns. As a true freshman, he led the team in receptions with 28 and was tied for the team lead in scores with four.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound receiver from Thibodaux, La. was the fourth transfer from the state that Kelly has brought into the program since making the move to Baton Rouge from Notre Dame last November.

Coming out of high school, Lacy was a three-star recruit that ranked No. 36 in Lousiana, No. 162 at his position and No. 984 nationally according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The first chance Lacy has to showcase his skills on a national stage will come during the Tigers’ Week One matchup against the Florida State Seminoles in New Orleans on Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. with ABC carrying the national broadcast.
