LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels had a surprising answer when asked about the best trash talk he heard at the Manning Passing Academy last week.

It wasn’t another quarterback or counselor who stood out, but instead the son of an SEC West head coach.

“Lane Kiffin’s son, yea, he was talking about Ole Miss is going to beat us this year,” Daniels said with a smile.

It’s no surprise that Kiffin’s son — Knox Kiffin — is a bit of a trash talker. After all, Lane Kiffin has done plenty of trolling during his coaching career, including taking a shot at Florida this offseason.

We will see if Knox Kiffin is right when the Rebels host LSU on Sept. 30. LSU won last year’s meeting between the two teams in blowout fashion, beating the Rebels 45-20 in Baton Rouge. The victory was an important one for the Tigers, who went on to win the SEC West title.

While Jayden Daniels did hear some trash talk from Knox Kiffin, it was an overall productive trip to the Manning Passing Academy for the QB.

Daniels was named one of the top performers by On3 after an impressive showing.

“Daniels said one of his goals this offseason was working on his deep ball, and he was among the most accurate quarterbacks on vertical throws on Friday night,” On3 wrote. “Daniels is considered by many to be the SEC’s top returning starter at quarterback.”

Jayden Daniels shares where LSU’s confidence is entering 2023 season

There were not too many expectations in Baton Rouge for Year One of Brian Kelly. A new head coach, a new quarterback with Jayden Daniels, and a tough schedule with the SEC West, plus Florida State in the nonconference. LSU blew everything out of the water, having an incredible, program-building type of season.

Now, there is going to be some confidence coming from the Tigers entering the 2023 season. Daniels says the group is going to be a tight-knit one, with everyone wanting to improve on a daily basis. LSU already seems to be miles ahead, from a mental standpoint, compared to this time a year ago.

“We all know each other,” Daniels said at the Manning Passing Academy held at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. “We were tight last year but just coming back and having that confidence in each other, what we expect from each players, and how we can take those top players and elevate their game while we’re elevating our game, bringing them along with us.”
