Less than a month ago, Texas A&M had a 67% chance of landing On3 Consensus five-star safety Jacoby Mathews of Ponchatoula, La.

Fast forward to Thursday, and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine indicates LSU is surging in Mathews’ recruitment with less than a week to National Signing Day.

In fact, the On3 RPM says LSU now has a 75.5% chance of landing Mathews, who ranks as the No. 19 overall player in the final On300 for the Class of 2022. Mathews also ranks as the No. 1 player in Louisiana, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Mathews also currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $38,000. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time. Mathews also ranks No. 96 in the High School Football NIL Rankings.

The On3 RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, expert predictions, social sentiment, visits, and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

New projections on Jacoby Mathews fuel RPM

And it’s those expert predictions that have shifted things in LSU’s direction for Jacoby Mathews. There have been three predictions in January that have pushed LSU’s chances from 56% to where things stand now.

To the experts, it’s become crystal clear that Brian Kelly’s new staff in Baton Rouge has done a great job of recruiting Mathews.

The Tigers get a chance to strengthen their case this weekend when Mathews takes his official visit to LSU. Mathews is scheduled to be joined on the visit in Baton Rouge by five-star linebacker Harold Perkins, four-star receiver Caleb Douglas and fast-rising athlete Jaelyn Davis-Robinson.

Florida is also making a push for Jacoby Stewart. But the On3 RPM is only giving the Gators a 4.9% chance of landing his commitment at this point. Some insiders believe the Gators’ chances are much better, though.

Mathews’ relationship with former LSU assistant and current Gators cornerback coach Corey Raymond is strong. The Gators laid out their plan and vision to Matthews on a visit last weekend. Gators coach Billy Napier made his in-home visit with Matthews this week.

Yet, behind the scenes, the buzz still points toward the home-state school. And that is reflected in the surge in the On3 RPM.
