The LSU Tigers got some good news on Friday evening, when news broke that Fitzgerald West will play in their upcoming matchup vs. Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl, even though he entered the transfer portal recently. The news was reported on Friday evening by AYS Sports.

West originally came to LSU as an offensive lineman, but transitioned to the defensive line ahead of 2023. He played in just two games in 2023.

Having played both lines in high school, West found the position shift to come naturally enough. West discussed the transition to his new spot some during the spring.

“I like it,” he said. “I’m used to it. I’ve been playing it almost all my life so it’s natural for me. I’d say the transition learning plays and stuff though, it’s not too hard for me. I pretty much know the scheme, so I know my assignment every play.”

West played high school football at Lafayette Christian (La.) Academy, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 800 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
