Newly anointed LSU head coach Brian Kelly has wasted no time in hitting the recruiting trail and shoring up the relationships with some of the Tigers’ top commitments for their 2022 recruiting class, including four-star quarterback Walker Howard.

Check out the video Howard posted on his Twitter page with his new head coach.

Howard attends St. Thomas More in Lafayette, La. He helped guide his team to an 11-2 record and a Louisiana Division I state championship in 2019.

He also guided St. Thomas More to another state crown in 2020, but did it in 2020 as the starting quarterback. His father, Jamie, played quarterback at LSU in the 1990s, and his mother also attended LSU.

The good news here for LSU fans is that Kelly got the L in the right direction this time when posing with one of LSU’s commitments. It’s tough to tell where on LSU’s campus the video was taken, but it appears to be a room with flashing lights and a LSU background.

Kelly seems a little bit awkward in the video above, just kind of dancing with his future quarterback at his back.

Kelly recently posed with Laterrance Welch, another LSU commitment for the class of 2022, and took a picture with him holding the L sideways. There’s a tradition at LSU of taking a picture with the L upright. But Kelly botched the tradition in his first picture.

Welch is a four-star defensive back prospect in the class of 2022.

Brian Kelly is wasting no time in connecting with LSU recruits

Regardless of his awkwardness, LSU fans have to be pleased that their $100 million head coach is reaching out to connect with their new recruits. They certainly paid their new head coach handsomely, and now it’s time for him to get to work on his promise of resurrecting Tiger football.

Even in a down season, LSU still had plenty of bright moments in 2021. They battled with Alabama until the very end and they shocked Texas A&M. It was one of the more beautiful game-winning touchdown passes of the season, as Max Johnson connected with his receiver, Jaray Jenkins.

The Tigers still went 6-6 despite battling through a really, really extensive list of injuries. That’s something to be incredibly proud of.

Departures for LSU

As many players are excited about Brian Kelly and the future of the LSU program, there are plenty of remarkably talented players that he’ll have to replace: defensive back Eli Ricks, wide receiver Deion Smith, quarterback Max Johnson, and quarterback Myles Brennan have all entered the transfer portal for the Tigers. Those are just a few of the names.

It’s going to be really exciting and interesting to see where Kelly can take the Bayou Bengals in the coming years. Enjoy the moment, LSU fans, because as Brady Quinn warned, Kelly has flirted with NFL jobs in the past and might leave the Bayou for NFL pastures in a few years.

For now, it’ll be exciting to see if Kelly can restore the roar in the Bayou.
