Few prospects in the 2023 recruiting class are as coveted as five-star Washington (D.C.) Archbishop Carroll athlete Nyckoles Harbor.

Michigan, LSU, South Carolina and Maryland are among the schools battling to land him, but with a 6-2 start to this season and a pitch of playing close to home, the Terrapins have some juice behind them, according to 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong.

“Talking to a source with knowledge of that recruitment and Maryland’s position, they told me over the weekend that they thought Maryland was “gaining momentum” was the word they used,” Wiltfong said on Monday. “Maryland and their strong start to the season and proximity to home, they have some things going for them in this recruitment. I know talking to his dad several times in the past, he’s always mentioned Maryland being the home school, the home team and being real nearby. That’s something that has always been out there for them.”

The Terrapins are expected to get his final official visit on the weekend of December 9-11, while LSU is scheduled to host him the week before. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) has Michigan (35.9%) as the slight leader over LSU (30.5%) and South Carolina (23.8%) as it stands right now.

Nyckoles Harbor Scouting Summary

“Has the best combination of size and speed we’ve seen from a young prospect as a national-level sprinter at 6-foot-5 and over 230 pounds. Runs under 10.4 seconds in the 100 meters with the size and length of a premier pass rushing prospect. Plays both tight end and defensive end for his high school, but has developed into more of an EDGE prospect as a junior. Shows his considerable athleticism as a pass rusher with high end closing speed. Is also able to locate and track the ball as a tight end. Still unrefined technically as a pass rusher. Productive against sub-par competition.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings.
