Seffner (Fla.) Wharton 2024 running back Terek McCant didn’t see a need to wait on his commitment. Maryland was where he wanted to be.

McCant has committed to the Terrapins over nearly 30 other offers from programs like Texas A&M, Texas, Arkansas, Ole Miss and other Power Five programs. McCant visited Texas A&M in late March. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine heavily favored the Aggies. Ahead of his commitment, RPM had the Aggies with a 96 percent chance of landing the On3 Industry Rankings three-star.

Maryland made an impression that stuck with McCant. He loved everything he heard from the Maryland coaching staff. McCant has yet to make his way to College Park to visit Maryland. He will take his first trip on April 8.

“I just feel like why wait, I love everything,” McCant told On3.

Terek McCant loves Maryland coaching staff

One of the main winning factors for Maryland was the coaching staff for McCant. Maryland’s coaching staff has been on McCant for some time. They’ve wowed him with how much of a priority they made him throughout the process.

“The coaching staff showing love (played a major part),” McCant said.

The Teraphins’ ability to potentially get McCant to the NFL also stuck out.

“They have a record of putting people in the draft,” McCant said. “I love the way their players are ready for the draft.”

McCant will take a few visits following his commitment. He doesn’t know who he’ll visit as of now. For now, he’s set on Maryland. The next focus for McCant is working toward his senior season. McCant hopes to have a major role for Maryland in his freshman season. That is a major goal of his.

“I’m just ready to keep working getting ready for my last season and my first at Maryland,” McCant said. “My goal is to make my mark as a freshman.”

McCant has a NIL Valuation of $19.2K. He is Maryland’s second commit in the class of 2024. He joins Germany linebacker Justin Okoronwo. McCant will go into a running back room with the potential of early playing time. The Teraphins signed one running back in the class of 2023 after landing Nolan Ray.

McCant can play more than just running back. He ran for 737 yards as a sophomore. McCant then split carries with four-star Stacy Gage in 2022. He only played in five games according to MaxPreps. McCant caught 19 passes for 188 yards and five touchdowns.
