Miami guard Jordan Miller was perfect from the field and the free throw line in the Hurricanes’ Elite Eight victory over Texas. The last — and only — other player to be perfect from both with at least seven field goal attempts was the one and only Christian Laettner.

Not only did the former Duke superstar have himself perfect performance shooting the ball but he also did it in the most famous game of his career: the 1992 Elite Eight game against Kentucky. The final make of that game was the turn-around jumper at the buzzer — aka “The Shot” —  arguably the most famous shot in college basketball history.

Laettner called Miller this week to congratulate him on the accomplishment.

“It was cool,” Miller said. “I joined some really, really elite company. I got to talk to Christian Laettner, which is always cool, someone I watched documentaries on him hitting the shot. It’s definitely a cool experience. I was very much surprised. They really kept it from me. So it was shocking. But being able to talk to guys like him who have been on the big stage, played in the NBA, had a helluva career, it was a dream come true, you can say.”

Jordan Miller scored 27 points without a miss

Christian Laettner was 10-for-10 shooting from the field and 10-for-10 from the free throw line in his perfect game 31 years ago. Jordan Miller was 7-for-7 from the field and 13 of 13 from the free throw line for 27 points.

“I didn’t know I had a perfect game until after the game,” Miller said. “Someone came up and told me. Being a competitor, I was just in the moment, just trying to win a basketball game to get to the Final Four.”

Miller is averaging 15.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists on the season. During the NCAA Tournament, he is up to 16.5 points per game on 62.2% shooting.

The Hurricanes have UConn in the second Final Four game on Saturday night. Florida Atlantic and San Diego State will play in the early game. The Huskies are the highest remaining seed at No. 4.

“First off, credit to UConn, they’re a great team. They played some good teams to get here. I think they have some really good guards that lead them in assists that really make the team run,” Miller said Thursday. “Obviously, they have a really dominant big man in the post who swallows up rebounds and plays really hard.
