CaneSport Recruiting Minute: A look ahead at some of Miami's top 2025 targets

Mario Cristobal loves the intangibles from signed quarterback Judd Anderson, who latched onto Miami’s 2024 recruiting class.

He’s the latest quarterback to join the Hurricanes’ room and there’s something to be said about the toughness he brings to the program. That’s what sold Cristobal and he was certainly thrilled to add him to the team.

Anderson may be a three-star prospect, but he could develop into a fine leader for Miami.

“Judd Anderson impressed us from day one with a couple of different things and one his leadership skills, right,” Cristobal said. “We saw him play basketball as well. His ability to move, make people miss, balance, body control, to be able to twist and get out of really difficult body positions was impressive.

“And then he was relatively new at quarterback at our particular high school before he made the move to another one. And before long, you saw statistically what he did. It’s hard to do that. That many yards, that type of completion percentage, that many touchdowns, natural leadership skills and just flat out tough, you know, like, unfazed.”

The quarterback is the most important position on the field, that much is obvious. So when Cristobal described the natural leadership from Anderson, he had a glowing review.

“There’s something to be said about that right when you are the one touching the football on every single play,” Cristobal said. “It’s got to show and your teammates got to feel that and it just oozes out very hungry. Tremendous appetite.”

While there’s excitement for Anderson to get in, Cristobal is excited for the quarterbacks that remain on the roster ahead of the Pinstripe Bowl against Rutgers.

“I’m very proud of our quarterbacks right now,” Cristobal said.” the way that we’re very proud of Jacurri, the way he’s practiced so far and looking forward to watching him play. And yeah, we’re always looking to add to that room. We don’t show our hands you know, in open, but you guys know we’re always on the hunt.”

As a member of the Class of 2024, Anderson was a three-star recruit out of Gray (Ga.) Warner Robins, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 97 overall prospect in the state, the No. 55 quarterback prospect in the class and the No. 842 overall prospect in the class.
