Miami defensive lineman Rueben Bain has made an early impression in Coral Gables, Fla., after arriving as an early enrollee this spring. He showed out during the spring game, finishing with three sacks.

Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal said Bain’s play during the spring game was extremely impressive.

“He’s got a relentless motor, ton of pride,” Cristobal said after the spring game. “He’s been coached really, really, really well. Over at his high school, they go hard. He’s used to this practice regimen, this structure and he’s extremely disruptive. He’s very, very tough. Does not shy away. It doesn’t matter if it’s a senior offensive lineman or a freshman that came in with him, the guy’s gonna get after somebody’s butt.”

Fellow freshman Nathaniel Joseph also had a great performance and Cristobal said they are they type of players the Miami program needs to have.

“These are Miami Hurricanes,” Cristobal said. “This is what Miami needs to always have and lots of them. I remember playing here and that’s what our teammates look like.”

Rueben Bain was a top prospect for Miami

Rueben Bain enrolled this past semester at Miami after a prolific career at Miami (Fla.) Miami Central in South Florida. Bain was a four-star recruit who ranked as the No. 57 overall recruit and No. 8 defensive lineman in the 2023 On3 Industry Ranking.

The On3 Industry is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four major recruiting media services. The On3 Industry Ranking is the most advanced, complete and unbiased rating and ranking measurement in the industry.

He was the third-highest rated recruit in the 2023 Hurricanes recruiting class after two five-star offensive lineman in Francis Mauigoa and Samson Okunlola.

Right before heading off to college, Bain participated in the Under Armour All-America Game. He impressed throughout the week, including earning recognition as one of On3’s top 10 prospects during Day 3 of practice.

“Rueben Bain lined up on the inside for Team Speed and lived in the backfield in 1-on-1’s and the team period,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power said. “The Miami commit has a unique build as a shorter, stockier defensive lineman, looking to be under 6-foot-2 and in the 275 pound range. Despite his non traditional dimensions, Bain has a nuanced pass rush skill set. His quickness off the snap was a considerable mismatch for an overmatched interior offensive line for Team Speed. Bain fires off the snap, stays low and is able to disengage with quick hands. He also showed some speed-to-power in 1-on-1’s. The disruption continued in the team period, with Bain darting into the backfield on several plays.”
