Miami lands former Alabama defensive lineman Jamil Burroughs
After landing two transfers from Alabama early in this offseason, Miami has now added another.
The Hurricanes have landed ex-Crimson Tide defensive lineman Jamil Burroughs. Burroughs is now enrolled in classes at Miami, On3 has learned.
On3 had reported earlier Wednesday that the Hurricanes had emerged as a possible landing spot for Burroughs.
The Class of 2020 four-star recruit played in 11 games for the Tide last season and finished the year with eight tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. It came after he played in nine total games in 2020 and ’21, recorded combined totals of seven tackles and a sack those two seasons.
The Georgia native entered the NCAA transfer portal June 30.
“Jamil Burroughs is one of the best pass rushers in the nation,” Alabama offensive lineman Tyler Booker said of Burroughs this spring. “… Jamil is so quick and he’s very smart as well.”
Burroughs ranked as the 37th-best defensive lineman and 317th-best overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting class according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was at one point committed to Georgia but decommitted after a year and ultimately landed at Alabama.
Because he entered the transfer portal outside of the portal window, he’ll likely be ineligible to play this season without a waiver.

Miami previously added two of his former teammates, offensive lineman Javion Cohen, who is set to be a starting guard for the Hurricanes, and wide receiver Tyler Harrell. Cohen started 25 games at Alabama the last two seasons and was a 2022 second-team All-SEC selection before entering the portal and ending up at Miami.
“Large human beings, right, that move things a long ways,” Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal said of Cohen this summer. “Javion has a lot of experience. Certainly has played at a high level. One of the better linemen when he was playing in the SEC.”
Miami is entering its second season with Cristobal as its head coach and appears to be in position for a step forward this year after finishing last season 5-7. The Hurricanes open their season against Miami (Ohio) on Friday before a big Week 2 test against Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M.
