Through 10 games, Miami is 5-6 in Mario Cristobal‘s first season leading his alma mater. However, the Hurricanes are doing much better on the recruiting trail.

Miami’s 2023 recruiting class is No. 10 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 2 in the ACC. The Hurricanes are one of two programs with two Five-Star Plus+ commits in Lakeland (Fla.) cornerback Cormani McClain and Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa.

With less than a month until the Early Signing Period, Miami has the chance to climb towards a top-five class. That is because the program is trending for multiple four-and-five-star recruits, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

5-star OT Samson Okunlola
On3 Consensus: No. 16
School: Brockton (Mass.) Thayer Academy
On3 Recruiting Prediction MachineMiami 80.6%, Florida 15.5%
On3 NIL Valuation$222K
The Skinny: Miami has been trending since the summer for Okunlola, who returned to Coral Gables for an unofficial visit on Nov. 5. The five-star told On3’s Chad Simmons on Nov. 10 that he feels “like a top priority” to the Hurricanes. Meanwhile, Florida got Okunlola on campus less than two weeks ago. Per Simmons, “Miami is still strong in this race, but they have company with Florida making a significant move.” Okunlola’s top five may be coming soon.

4-star EDGE Rueben Bain
On3 Consensus: No. 83
School: Miami (Fla.) Miami Central
On3 Recruiting Prediction MachineMiami 61.1%, Auburn 33.9%, Alabama 1.4%
On3 NIL Valuation$121K
The Skinny: The race for Bain’s commitment is a close one right now. He is deciding between Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Louisville, Miami and Oklahoma. Bain has visited the Hurricanes nine times, including the same day as Okunlola on Nov. 5. Bain told On3’s Chad Simmons on Oct. 2 that his relationship with Cristobal “seems like a great thing.” The four-star also shared with Simmons that Miami’s staff tries to contact him every day.

4-star CB Damari Brown

School: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage
On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Miami 90.1%, Clemson 4.4%, Florida State 2.3%, Alabama 1.6%
On3 NIL Valuation: $19.6K
The Skinny: Brown will be deciding between the Crimson Tide, Hurricanes, Seminoles and Tigers. All four programs have received an official visit from the Sunshine State native. Miami got the most recent one on the weekend of Nov. 5. Brown told Izubee Charles of CaneSport on Nov. 8 that the Hurricanes are contacting him “every day.” He added that he is intrigued by opportunities both on and off the field at Miami.

4-star RB Christopher Johnson
On3 Consensus: No. 337
School: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard
On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Miami 79.2%, Ole Miss 18%

Johnson added that it is a “great feeling to be around” the program. His high school teammate, four-star cornerback Antione Jackson, committed to Miami on July 2 and recently reclassified to the 2023 class.
