Michigan National Championship Postgame Show

One of the biggest factors in the national championship ended up being Michigan‘s ability to run the football. In particular, running back Donovan Edwards stepping up and having a phenomenal performance for the Wolverines.

After the game, fellow running back Blake Corum praised Donovan Edwards for his performance.

“I was so excited for Donovan because I just felt like he needed that,” Corum said. “He needed it. He’s back. Dono is back. And I don’t know what he’s going to do after this. I hope he just celebrates and doesn’t think about what decision he’s going to make.”

Michigan had 303 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground during the game. Donovan Edwards accounted for 104 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries. That includes getting both scores and 87 yards on his first two touches of the game.

“But I was happy for him. That’s something Donovan, he was praying for. He talked to the media the other day I; listened to the interview. He said he’s working on growing. He said he went to a therapist and just talking and talking,” Corum continued.

“But Donovan, he puts in the work. He’s always there. I love that guy. Don, the Don. That’s going to be what do you call it, a good friend — Trusted agent, known friend for life. That’s my guy. I’m glad I got to share the backfield with Donovan. I wish Donovan nothing but the best, if he ever needed anything, best believe I’d be there for him.”

At that point, quarterback JJ McCarthy jumped in to add his own praise for Donovan Edwards.

“I also wanted to mention something about Donovan,” McCarthy said. “I’ve been honored to be his roommate for two years. And just knowing everything he goes through behind the scenes and just the man he is on a day-to-day basis, this couldn’t have been a better moment for him to show out and show the world who he really is. And just so frickin’ happy for the guy.”

Part of what made Donovan Edwards’ performance so extraordinary is that his usage has been down lately and he was the third running back into the game for Michigan. However, with the game, he reminded everyone how explosive he can be.

“The Don is back,” Corum concluded.

Blake Corum on Michigan’s 2023 championship run

For Blake Corum, the College Football Playoff run was a matter of taking care of unfinished business. Now, he’s finished that business.

“We came back for it. We came back to get the Natty, came back to win for Michigan, and we did it. I’m just so blessed and speechless. I’m just trying to take everything in,” Corum said.

“When we set the comeback, it was a lot of us. We said we had unfinished business, so I’ll leave you all with this. The business is finished.”
