During Michigan’s 31-10 win over Indiana last week, running backs coach Mike Hart collapsed on the sideline due to a seizure. Following the game, head coach Jim Harbaugh shared that Hart, who stayed overnight in Bloomington for observation, was in stable condition.

On Friday, Hart returned to the recruiting trail to watch Dexter (Mich.) four-star running back and Michigan commit Cole Cabana. Alongside him at the game is Michigan tight ends coach Grant Newsome.

Hart is currently the all-time leading rusher in Michigan football history. He ran for 5,040 yards while playing for the Wolverines from 2004 to 2007.

This season, Hart is coaching one of college football’s top running back tandems in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. They will face their toughest test of the season Saturday against No. 10 Penn State.

Cabana, who chose the Wolverines on Feb. 5, is the third-highest-ranked prospect in Michigan’s 2023 recruiting class. He is the No. 193 overall prospect and No. 12 running back in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 rates Cabana higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2023 On300, Cabana is the No. 152 overall prospect and No. 7 running back in the country.

Cole Cabana On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Cole Cabana:

“Electric playmaker with the ball in his hands who lived in the endzone during his junior season. Scored 28 total touchdowns with nearly 2,200 all-purpose yards during his junior campaign. Top-end speed is top tier. Terrific sprinter who ran 6.43 in the 55m, 6.82 in the 60m and a blistering 10.55 100m during his junior track and field season. Excellent wiggle and change of direction. Plays with a low center of gravity and tremendous field vision. Quality pass catcher who should be effective in the passing game at the next level.

“Build is lean now but should add solid muscle mass as he works in a collegiate strength and conditioning program. Never going to be a bruiser but plays physically. Terrific all-around skillset who has the chance to fill an immediate change-of-pace role early at the next level and potentially be the workhorse down the line. NFL potential is capped due to size, but still has NFL upside.”
