Michigan and Juwan Howard have landed a big-time commitment from a standout guard in the NCAA Transfer Portal. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, former Princeton star Jaelin Llewellyn will make the move to Ann Arbor and suit up for the Wolverines next season.

“I chose Michigan because they are a great program with a great coach that has had success at the guard spot, especially with transfers,” Llewellyn told Tipton. “Michigan is a team that consistently makes a push in the tournament and I want to help do the same, and be a part of something special.

“Also, Ann Arbor is a lot closer to my home (Mississauga, Canada) than I’ve been since going to high school in Virginia, and that gives my parents more of an opportunity to catch some games.”

Llewellyn, a former four-star recruit coming out of the Class of 2018, spent three seasons at Princeton – averaging 14 points per game over the course of his career with the Tigers. After putting up 10.1 points per game as a freshman in 2018-2019, Llewellyn’s numbers improved to 15.3 points per game in 2019-2020 and then up to 15.8 points in 2021-2022.

A First Team All-Ivy League selection last season, Llewellyn had originally committed to Clemson in the ACC but is now taking his talents to Michigan to join Howard’s program in the Big Ten.

Llewellyn visited Michigan on Thursday night before making commitment

According to his Instagram story, Llewellyn visited Michigan on Thursday night before ultimately deciding to commit to the Wolverines on Friday afternoon.

As soon as Llewellyn hit the NCAA Transfer Portal a month ago, the former Princeton standout was already hearing from over 20 programs across the college basketball landscape. He ultimately made the decision to commit to Clemson, but backed off from his commitment a little over a week ago. Now, he’s heading to Michigan.

Llewellyn, a 6-foot-2 point guard, averaged 15.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 45.1% shooting from the field this past season for the Tigers. The native of Canada has at least one year of college basketball eligibility remaining, meaning he brings plenty of experience and talent to the Wolverines.
