Michigan wide receiver Karmello English announced his intention to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal in a few weeks. English let everyone know he’ll be officially in the portal on April 16th, according to the social media announcement he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He was a four-star prospect in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Wolverine! I would like to thank Coach Harbaugh, Coach Moore, & Coach Bellamy for believing in my ability to play at UM. More notably, I appreciate my teammates, Michigan fans and support staff!” he explained in his Instagram story on Saturday.

“After careful consideration, I will be entering my name in the transfer portal on April 16th! respect my decision,” English finished.

He hauled in one touchdown catch for four yards this year (against Indiana) in limited action for the Wolverines. English suited up in seven games.

The Alabama native played his high school football at Phenix City Central High School (Phenix City, Alabama), the same school that former Clemson star Justyn Ross played for. English helped guide the Red Devils to a 10-3 overall record his senior year, including a trip to the Alabama Class 7A semifinal. He hauled in 75 catches for 850 yards and 11 touchdowns, while tacking on another two rushing touchdowns.

His junior year, English guided Phenix City to the Class 7A Championship game with a 13-1 overall record. That year he hauled in 70 catches for 1,059 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns, tacking on four more touchdowns in other ways.

As one of the most decorated high school prospects in the country, he played in the Under Armour All-American game. When he chose the Wolverines out of high school, English picked them over offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and many others.

The Wolverines enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in school history, finishing with a 15-0 overall record after bringing home the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship. Their old head coach, Jim Harbaugh, packed his bags this offseason and made his return to the NFL, joining the LA Chargers. Sherrone Moore is now the new head coach for the Wolverines.

There will be a new face under center in Ann Arbor next season as well, as quarterback J.J. McCarthy decided to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.
