PJ Fleck in Florida to watch Richard Young, Aidan Gousby

Minnesota head coach PJ Fleck and cornerbacks coach Paul Haynes are in Lee County, Fla., to watch 2023 top-100 recruit Richard Young and 2022 Minnesota commit Aidan Gousby play Thursday night.

Young is the No. 35 prospect in the 2023 On3 Top 100 rankings and the second-best running back in the class. He does not have an offer from Minnesota at this moment.

Gousby is a consensus three-star athlete who will play cornerback for the Golden Gophers.

Both are stars for Lehigh Acres (Fla.) Lehigh, which is playing Punta Gorda (Fla.) Charlotte.

Entering the game, Young had 82 carries for 836 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Gousby has eight catches for 83 yards, one interception and two passes defended.

Richard Young is one of the best running backs in the country

Young has been a star running back for Lehigh Acres (Fla.) Lehigh since his freshman year when he for 854 yards on 111 carries. He was even better as a sophomore and has been even better as a junior.

The 6-foot speedster released a top 10 of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC in August.

Young after On3’s Chad Simmons that the Buckeyes are the early favorites for his signature.

“They’re definitely the top school,” Young said in August. “I definitely love it there and am planning to go back there for a game and I really do love the coaches, the players, all that. It was a good environment.”

Aidan Gousby is a big recruit for PJ Fleck, Minneosta

Gousby committed to Minnesota after visiting the campus in June. He is one of 13 commits in PJ Fleck’s 2022 class, none of whom are in the 2022 On300.

Four of the recruits are defensive backs. Gousby will be joined by Clearwater (Fla.) Clearwater Academy International cornerback Rhyland Kelly, Harvey (La.) Helen Cox cornerback Tariq Watson and Rabun Gap (Ga.) Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School safety Coleman Bryson in the secondary room next season.
