Heading into the new era of Mississippi State hoops under Chris Jans, the Bulldogs are picking up new pieces to revamp the squad for 2022-23. Former Oregon State guard Dashawn Davis announced his commitment to Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon.

Davis, 6-foot-2, 285 pounds, played one season for the Beavers, averaging 32 minutes per game in 2021-22. He made 21 starts in 27 games and averaged 10.9 points. He led Oregon State in assists with 5.5 per game and added 3.1 rebounds as well. Davis was the team’s second-leading scorer. The Beavers finished 12th in the conference with just three wins.

Davis announced his entry into the NCAA transfer portal on March 24 and picked the Mississippi State Bulldogs over the likes of Washington, Cincinnati and many others. A native of Bronx, New York, he started his collegiate career at Trinity Valley Community College where he was the No. 7 JUCO player in the country.

Transferring Ohio guard Mark Sears completes virtual visit with Mississippi State

The transfer portal has changed the recruiting game in college basketball and one of the players in the portal has an impressive list of programs seeking to acquire his services.

Ohio University point guard Mark Sears has plenty of interest from some major programs since making the decision to enter the portal, according to 247Sports.

The 6-foot, Muscle Shoals (Ala.) native averaged 19.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists during the 2021-22 campaign. He shared insight into his recruiting visits.

“There’s a lot of schools reaching out to me but Mississippi State, Georgetown, Alabama, and Miami are the ones that check in on me daily,” he said. “Right now I’m trying to get some visits situated but I’ve done a virtual visit with Mississippi State and I’m supposed to do one with Georgetown today. I’m going to try to get up to Alabama’s A- Day game (April 16). I think that will be the day my visit will be. I’m also trying to get out to Miami, Texas and Georgetown as well. I plan on taking all those visits before I decide.”

The transfer portal has opened doors for Sears. However, the Ohio standout isn’t rushing his decision.

“I want to make my decision around late April, when school ends so I can get my stuff situated, set up summer classes so I can get right to work.”
