Mississippi State Head Coach Zach Arnett - Arkansas Game Week (1)

The Mississippi State Bulldogs star quarterback Will Rogers was one of a handful of players injured during their 41-28 victory over Western Michigan. Rogers suffered an arm injury late in the action and had to exit the game.

On Saturday, Mississippi State returns to SEC action as they host the Arkansas Razorbacks. With Rogers’ status for the game up in the air, from the outside looking in, things look dicey for the Bulldogs. And instead of giving Mississippi State fans an opportunity to breathe a sigh of relief, head coach Zach Arnett has no plan to update his quarterback’s status for Saturday.

“No, no update. I put him in with every other guy,” said Arnett. “Gave them limited reps last week because they played the vast majority of snaps. Every single guy on the roster is on a day-to-day evaluation, and everyone who’s medically cleared to play and able to play will play. If they are not, then they don’t.”

Arnett kept his status update ambiguous not only for Rogers but also for a number of Mississippi State players who are also dealing with injuries currently. Whether or not they will play on Saturday is a mystery that will not be solved until Saturday’s kickoff.

Arnett has ‘full faith’ in Mike Wright if needed

If Rogers is unable to play against Arkansas, Arnett has confidence in his backup quarterback Mike Wright.

“Before I get to that, in the event you ask a roundabout question about [injuries] I’ll give you an answer,” Zach Arnett laughed. “But the reality is no matter what position you play, no matter what position you play, it’s not unique to the quarterback. No matter what position you play, whether you are the starter or not, you must prepare as you are the starter.”

This comes amid an injury concern for longtime starting quarterback Will Rogers. In the win against Western Michigan, Rogers left with an apparent injury to his non-throwing arm or shoulder. Now, his status is up in the air going forward.

Mike Wright came to Mississippi State as a transfer from Vanderbilt. Initially, he was a three-star recruit in the 2020 cycle and the 39th-ranked quarterback overall, according to the On3 Industry Rankings,

During his time with Vanderbilt, Wright played in 26 games. He’s already appeared in six games this season for Mississippi State. He has a 55.8 completion percentage on 344 career passing attempts with 2,128 yards and 22 touchdowns. On top of that, Wright has 1,043 rushing yards and 10 career scores on the ground.
