Brennan Armstrong is already endearing himself to his teammates at NC State, especially their wide receiving corps.

The former Virginia quarterback is looking to lead the Wolfpack into a new era of success, and much of that will be predicated on his connections with his pass catchers. Evidently, that’s growing at immense speed, as he explained to the media earlier this week.

“We’ve got a lot. We’ve got a lot building. I mean, I guess Keyon [Lesane]’s been catching quite a bit. We’ve got a lot of stuff to still work on, but the guys are starting to see it I think. They’re starting to feel it, how explosive we’re trying to be,” said Armstrong. “I was saying this earlier, I remember that feeling, so I want to get back to that feeling, how just like, ‘Hey, we’re just going. Let’s go. Let’s go be explosive. Let’s have that mindset,’ and I think guys are starting to realize that, especially when we get into team scenarios, where you know, we’re actually playing football here against our defense, and let’s take some shots.

“If they’re going to give us the answer to the test, and you know, get a guy one-on-one, we’re going to take it. That’s where confidence and chemistry has got to be built, to trust and you know, to make those plays.”

It remains to be seen just how high Brennan Armstrong can fly at NC State, but perhaps the Wolfpack are flying a bit under the radar at the moment. In 2023, they could be putting a bunch of detractors on notice in short order if their offense reaches it’s potential.

Brennan Armstrong says being a leader for NC State is a ‘huge deal’

Continuing, freshly-minted NC State quarterback Brennan Armstrong knows what it is like to be a leader for an ACC program. The southpaw signal-caller was the starting quarterback for three seasons at Virginia, where he earned All-ACC third team honors in 2021.

But despite his impressive resume and success at the Power Five level, there are never any guarantees that a quarterback like Armstrong will be able to develop the relationship needed to win over his teammates after transferring. Armstrong has appeared to earn that trust.

Armstrong was asked at ACC Media Days earlier this summer about the responsibility he has as one of the team’s leaders for the 2023 season.

“I think it’s a huge deal,” Armstrong said. “Obviously I’m a new face. I think Coach Doeren hit it. My coming into the team, I just put my head down and worked hard, and now I’m just trying to start — I’ve kind of started to be a vocal leader.”

The sixth-year quarterback has some big shoes to fill as he replaces Devin Leary, who himself is going through the same transition at Kentucky. Time will tell if he’s able to do so.
