NC State is dealing with an injury to its star quarterback Devin Leary. During this past weekend’s home win over Florida State, Leary was driven into the dirt right after releasing a pass by a Seminole defender, injuring his shoulder in the process. He was taken back to the locker and evaluated, with the Wolfpack medical team putting his arm in a sling for the rest of the game, effectively ending his day.

At Monday’s press conference recapping the FSU win, NC State head coach Dave Doeren provided an update on Leary, which ESPN’s David Hale reported in a tweet:

“Doeren says QB Devin Leary’s shoulder injury will not require surgery. ‘Rehab-able injury and that starts today’ but said ‘There isn’t a timeline. It could be this week or it could be six weeks.’ Says  Leary ‘is tough & will grind’ and says he won’t answer any more questions on injury.”

So a fairly vague update from the head coach. Good to hear that Leary’s injury is one he can and will come back from, and should be able to even this season. However, Doeren stressed that Wolfpack fans shouldn’t place any expectations on Leary’s recovery, since it’s unknown how soon he will be back.

The original hit on Leary led to a roughing the passer penalty on the Seminoles. Prior to that play, the NC State star quarterback had just led the Pack on its first touchdown drive of the game, finding wide receiver Darryl Jones in the end zone from 10 yards out at the end of an impressive drive to narrow the deficit to just 7 points. Up until the apparent injury, Leary completed 10-21 passes for 131 yards.

Obviously, the team rallied after Leary went out, coming back to win the game with an inspired effort on the defensive end, holding Florida State scoreless in the second half to secure the comeback victory.
