Former Rutgers forward Gavin Griffiths has committed to Nebraska after entering the NCAA transfer portal this offseason, per On3’s Joe Tipton.

Griffiths entered the transfer portal in March following just one lone season with the Scarlett Knights, as he’ll now take his talents to Lincoln to join Fred Hoiberg and the Cornhuskers ahead of the 2024-2025 season.

In his true freshman season at Rutgers played in all 32 of the team’s games with three starts, averaging 5.8 points and 2.2 rebounds in his 17.8 minutes per game. Ranking second on the team with 31 made three-pointers while also adding 20 assists, 10 steals, and 13 blocks to season totals on the year.

Griffiths shot 32.4% from the field and 28.2% from three-point range for the Scarlett Knight, scoring in double figures seven different times in his first collegiate season. Highlighted by a career-high 25 points in the team’s first home game of the season against Boston University. The most points ever by a freshman in their home debut in program history.

Griffiths played high school hoops at Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford (CT), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 43 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

At 6-foot-8, 193 pounds with guard abilities, Griffiths will immediately provide some length and positional versatility to the Cornhuskers along with a high ceiling and upside moving forward throughout the remainder of his college career.

Griffiths joins former North Dakota State forward Andrew Morgan and Utah guard Rollie Worster in Nebraska’s 2024 transfer portal class. Who averaged 12.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last season for the Bison and 9.9 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Utes. As the Cornhuskers will continue to add to their roster this offseason after losing Ramel Lloyd Jr., Eli Rice, Blaise Keita, C.J. Wilcher, Jamarques Lawrence, Matar Diop all to the transfer portal.
