The Nebraska Cornhuskers are scouring the country far and wide in search of their next possible head coach. Currently, the team has appointed Mickey Joseph the title of interim head coach after firing Scott Frost earlier in the season. Joseph’s appointment to the position has not stopped Nebraska’s coaching search, which is fine with him. In fact, he believes Nebraska deserves a national coaching search.

“Well, we always talk about blocking out the noise. So we’re not going to worry about who the search firm is talking to. Because, like I said before, Nebraska deserves to have a national search.

“Our interview right now is in the next eight games. That’s your interview. So, we can’t do anything about that. We also talked to them; control what you can control. We can’t control that, so we’re going to block out the noise, and we’re going to focus on Indiana.”

Joseph will get the chance to lead the Cornhusker to their first victory with him at the helm this Saturday when they take on Indiana. The former assistant turned interim coach has an opportunity to show what he brings to the program on the field and in recruiting to finish off this season. And if he can find a way to salvage the year and get the Cornhuskers’ bowl eligible, along with bringing in a quality recruiting class, Nebraska might not have to look any further than him for their next head coach.

Joseph addresses his plan on the recruiting trail: ‘We’re going to recruit like we’re going to be here’

The Cornhuskers named Micky Joseph as their interim head coach after firing Scott Frost following their Week 2 loss. Being named an interim coach does not guarantee any sort of job security at the head coaching position or with the new coach to come in. But Joseph is not letting that stop him from doing his job. Although his future in Nebraska is now uncertain following this season, he plans on handling things the right way, especially in recruiting.

“We going to recruit like we’re going to be here. That’s the right thing to do,” said Joseph. “So we’re gonna send coaches out on Wednesday; they’re gonna be out Wednesday night. Then Thursday and Friday, they’ll recruit and get back in there on Saturday; the ones who don’t have a game. I’ll be on the road Friday. I’ll be in Monroe on Friday, New Orleans on Saturday, and be back here Sunday. No, we’re going to do the job the right way, do things the right way here. We’re not going to sabotage the place knowing, saying, that we might not be here. The best thing to do and the most professional thing to do is to do things the right way.”

No matter what the future may hold for Joseph, he plans on carrying himself like an actual head coach regardless of the interim tag.
