Bellevue (Neb.) Bellevue West three-star quarterback Daniel Kaelin announced his decommitment from Missouri Friday afternoon. It didn’t long for a new favorite to quickly emerge in Kaelin’s recruitment.

Following recent industry updates, Nebraska has emerged as the heavy favorite to land a commitment from Kaelin according to On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). The Cornhuskers currently sit with a 96.1% chance to land his pledge.

Nebraska coach Matt Rhule had been all in on the race for Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 overall player in the 2024 class. However, Raiola announced his commitment to Georgia on May 15 picking the Bulldogs over the Cornhuskers and USC.

While Rhule missed out on Raiola, he has the Cornhuskers’ in a good a spot to land the only other quarterback in the 2024 cycle he extended an offer to.

Nebraska first extended an offer to Kaelin last May. He had visited Nebraska multiple times and was last on campus in December.

“I have talked to coach Rhule on the phone, but it was great to meet him and talk in person finally,” Kaelin told Husker Online in December. I got to meet a bunch of the new staff including coach Sutterfield. He talked to me a lot about what their offense will look like and I got to watch some film with him.

“Coach Satt does a lot of different stuff on offense and he showed me some of that in what he did this year at South Carolina. Coach Rhule said that they will be balanced and coach Satt showed me how they will utilize play action as well. I think that the offense will definitely fit me.”

Rhule’s class so far under Rhule

When Rhule arrived in Lincoln last November, he immediately went to work on the Cornhuskers’ 2023 class.

Nebraska’s 2023 class ended up with 28 signees and finished as the No. 29 class in the country. It also finished No. 5 in the Big Ten.

Now building under in his first full cycle with the Cornhuskers’, Rhule has their 2024 class off to a quick start. The Cornhuskers currently six pledges in a class that ranks No. 25 in the country and No. 7 in the Big Ten.

Nebraska’s six commitments include four-star safety Roger Gradney, three-star linebacker Willis McGahee IV, three-star tight end Ian Flynt, three-star interior offensive lineman Gibson Pyle, three-star athlete Keelan Smith and three-star defensive lineman Ashton Murphy.
