Nebraska Football Practice Report Sept. 5 I Nebraska Huskers I Huskeronline

Nebraska cornerback Omar Brown knows a legend when he sees one and that’s Deion Sanders. Ahead of the Huskers’ matchup with Colorado, Brown was asked what excited him about the game.

It’s Sanders of course. Not only that, the players Coach Prime brought in were masterful in the opening week upset of TCU.

Now, Brown and Nebraska head to Boulder to take on the GOAT.

“That’s obviously the GOAT at DB,” Brown said. “I mean, everybody knows that. So, I mean, he’s obviously a coach now, so it brings a different perspective. You’ve got to give Deion Sanders his props and respect, you know, for everything he’s done.

“I think everybody does, especially now. So really just me being a player, it’s like going against another player and him being a coach. So I mean, that’s also what I’m excited for, too.”

Brown came away impressed with the talent of Colorado based on all of the new players the team brought in.

“They (brought) in players, like a lot of people hit the transfer portal,” Brown said. “A lot of players went there so for me, like the reason why I say I circled that game is just for me because, the games you want, like I love going against competition.

“I love going against skill players and players potentially (will go to the) NFL. So I mean, some players might back away from it, but I mean, I just can’t wait for it. It’ll be fun.”

Brown played sparingly over the course of 11 games last season. But Nebraska will need him against Colorado’s offense this time around.

In a loss to Minnesota last week, Brown had seven total tackles, five solo tackles and an interception. But he’ll have to guard guys like Travis Hunter, an early season Heisman candidate due to his two-way star status.

Plus, Brown will have to read the eyes of quarterback Shedeur Sanders. So it should be an enticing matchup.

As a member of the Class of 2019, Brown was a three-star recruit out of Minneapolis (Minn.) North Senior when he committed to Northern Iowa, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 7 overall prospect in the state, the No. 160 cornerback in the class and the No. 1,650 overall prospect in the class.
