The North Carolina Tar Heels star forward Armando Bacot now stands alone atop the school’s record book for career double-doubles. After tying previous record holder Billy Cunningham with 60 career double-doubles and a Tar Heels victory over Boston College earlier in January, Bacot secured number 61 against N.C. State on Saturday. The six-foot-11 senior forward from Richmond, VA, officially secured the record in the second half after recording 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Bacot already owns a handful of school records, ACC conference records, and NCAA basketball records. Most notably, he tied basketball Hall of Famer you and former Navy star David Robinson’s record for the most double-doubles in a season with 31 in 2022. Also, in the 2022 men’s NCAA championship tournament, he became the first player ever to record a double-double in all six games of a single tournament.

Breaking records appears to be the name of the game for this North Carolina star. To start off the 2022-23 campaign, Bacot broke another one of cunningham’s records recording the most double-digit rebound games in the program’s history.

Bacot has enjoyed a fantastic ride with the Tar Heels. Still, that ride is far from being over. North Carolina still has the rest of January and February games to play, along with the ACC conference tournament to end the season. And if the Tar Heels make it into the 2023 NCAA man’s Tournament, The records could continue to fall for Bacot. Unfortunately, there is one record he won’t be able to capture by the time the season is all said and done. The ACC’s record for the most career double-doubles belongs to Robinson’s teammate with the San Antonio Spurs, Tim Duncan. Duncan finished his time at Wake Forest with 87. Still, Bacot could move the North Carolina record to similar heights with double-doubles in the Tar Heels’ remaining and in the ACC and NCAA tournaments.
