Hubert Davis had some immense praise cooked up for North Carolina forward Harrison Ingram after he had his strongest performance of the season in the Tar Heels’ 93-84 win over rival Duke at home on Saturday

Ingram, who spent the first two seasons of his college at Stanford, was indoctrinated to the biggest rivalry in college basketball in fantastic fashion. He was all over the court, rebounding like a mad man, and impressing his head coach at every turn over the weekend.

“I mean, it’s just been a huge bonus for us, to have another guy that you know, is relentless on the boards,” Davis said, regarding Ingram. “Whether it’s offense or defense. I think the play that comes up to me automatically was that one in the second half, where I mean he just got involved in the play. Kept it alive, dove on the floor, threw it back out to half-court, Elliott [Cadeau] got it, he threw it to RJ [Davis], RJ skipped to Cormac [Ryan] for the wide-open three. I think that’s the extra effort that you’re referencing. Not only getting the rebound, but keeping it alive.

“He’s doing an amazing job at that, and doing that alongside Armando [Bacot], who’s an elite rebounder. That just really puts us in a good position on both sides of the floor.”

In the end, Ingram had amassed 21 points against the Blue Devils, hitting 66.7% of his shots on the night and burying five three-pointers from behind the arc. As Davis mentioned, the forward also made his presence felt on defense with four steals and 13 rebounds, helping get to his seventh double-double of the season.

When it was all said and done, his first chance at playing in the famed ACC rivalry didn’t disappoint, and Ingram explained that to the media after the game.

“It was great, I don’t even know what’s going on. I’m still blacked out right now, I don’t even know what’s going on,” Ingram admitted. “I was on the court having a good time, but just seeing all my fans, seeing all my friends, and seeing all my family out there. I mean you see how loud the crowd was, they had to have broken the sound barrier or something. I’m about to go to Franklin Street right now and see what all the fans are talking about.”

Alas, Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels have a good one in Harrison Ingram as they make their march towards the NCAA Tournament in 2024.
