Hubert Davis is going to have to make a grocery list for Pete Nance before every North Carolina game from now on.

Nance score 22 points and pulled down four rebounds after Davis reportedly motivated him with lemon Oreos ahead of the Tar Heels’ victory over the Virginia Cavaliers. Speaking with the media afterwards, Davis revealed he’s going to have to make a couple more trips to Harris Teeter moving forward.

“I don’t know, but I’m stopping by Harris Teeter today,” Davis joked, asked if the Oreos have become a good luck charm. “This week, Pete stopped by the office and we started talking about cookies. I asked him, Do you like Crumbl Cookies or Insomnia? He said, I like Crumbl Cookies. I said, Well, I like Insomnia cookies. I told him the best type of cookies that I like, and I asked him what is your favorite cookie. He said a lemon Oreo. I said I’ve heard of Oreo cookies, I’ve never heard of a lemon Oreo cookie. He said just go to the grocery store. So I said okay, I’m going to go to Harris Teeter right after practice, I’m going to go look for the lemon Oreo and I said if I can’t find it, we’re going to get in a brawl. He said fine. So I went into Harris Teeter, and there they were.

“So after every home pregame meal, he goes up to my office and takes a nap on my couch, so when he went in there I had the Oreo cookies laying down. So right after the game I walked into the locker room and said guys, you have no idea what allowed us to be pretty good today. He went into the locker and threw the Oreos. He didn’t eat it yet. Threw it right there on the ground. Coach May said you’ve got to go to Harris Teeter today. So as soon as I leave you guys, I’m going to Harris Teeter. Go get some more lemon Oreos cookies.”

Don’t expect Davis to start munching on the lemon Oreos though. Nance can have as many as he wants, as the North Carolina leader’s lactose intolerance will make him wait until the offseason.

“I didn’t eat them. I talked to Pete, you know I’m lactose intolerant,” stated Davis. “I don’t — is it natural? I said, we’ve got a game on Monday, I’d like to be there on the bench. So that might be an off-season thing that I could eat them.”

Expect lemon Oreos sales to go through the roof in Chapel Hill. It could be what propels the Tar Heels on another fantastic NCAA Tournament run.
