North Carolina Tar Heels superstar R.J. Davis was elated to official bring an ACC regular season title back to Chapel Hill.

Davis and his teammates clinched the feat with a victory over their rival Duke Blue Devils on Saturday evening. Inside Cameron Indoor, many believed Duke would get back a win over the Tar Heels to end their regular season, but North Carolina prevailed with an 84-79 victory.

In that showdown, Davis amassed nine points and three assists in 37 minutes, a light game on the stat-sheet for the star guard, but he was satisfied enough with clinching the title when the clock struck zero, helping his teammates guide North Carolina in the process.

“I’m extremely happy,” Davis told the media, following the accomplishment. “I haven’t won it since I’ve been here, and we haven’t won it since 2019. I’m just super proud of this group. The way we just battled, and we were able to come out with a win like this, and win the ACC regular season.

“I mean, it’s special for this group. That was one of our goals going into the year. We still got some more goals to knock down, but we’re almost there.”

In the end, it was Cormac Ryan who led the Tar Heels in scoring against Duke. A massive 31-point outburst helped propel North Carolina to the win, as Ryan shot six-of-eight from three-point land, a huge boost to the Tar Heels.

Additionally, forward Harrison Ingram added a double-double for the Tar Heels, accumulating 14 points and ten rebounds on the evening, making life difficult for the Blue Devils in the paint, as well.

Now, North Carolina will await their opponent in the ACC Tournament, looking to sweep the top accolades in the conference. If they’re able to do so, they’ll enter the NCAA Tournament with designs on getting back to the title game, and finishing the job this time around.

As for the Blue Devils, they couldn’t overcome the Tar Heels during the regular season, so they’ll certainly be hoping for a shot to vanquish their rivals in the ACC Tournament this week. They’ll have to wait until Thursday to get back onto the court.

Time will tell how far North Carolina and R.J. Davis can climb in the ACC and NCAA Tournament, but they’ve already proven they can get the job done in the postseason. It should be a fascinating ride, but the Tar Heels are primed for a run.
