Chandler (Ariz.) AZ Compass Prep four-star recruit Zayden High tells On3 he’s committed to North Carolina.

The 6-foot-9 class of 2023 small forward also received offers from Michigan, Villanova, Texas, Arkansas, and others.

The native of Spring Branch, Texas, is North Carolina’s second addition to the class. He joins five-star guard Simeon Wilcher (No. 17).

High ranks as the No. 55 overall prospect in the class of 2023, according to the On3 Consensus — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He is also ranked as the No. 11 overall small forward in the country.

High on his commitment to UNC

Zayden High says prior to his official visit to UNC a couple of weeks ago, “I had no idea where I was going to commit. But during the visit, I was able to see how it’s set up for me to go in as a freshman and shine. I just saw all the right things and made the decision to go to North Carolina.”

High says UNC separated themselves from the other schools in his recruitment.

“North Carolina just stood out the most,” he says. “I was the most comfortable there and they took care of my family on my visit which played a big role in my decision.”

Hubert Davis and Sean May played a big role in his decision to choose Carolina.

“Coach Davis is just a good personal overall,” High continued. “Coach May and everyone are good dudes to their players on and off the court and they like to laugh so that’s a good thing.”

How does UNC plan to utilize High?

“Just to be able to stretch the floor and make everybody else better,” he says. “I want to go in and do whatever coach needs me to do to win a National Championship and contribute to the team.”

Scouting Summary

Zayden High has a great frame, projectable. He has good length and is a good athlete. His jump shot and touch are very intriguing. He is confident in pick and pop situations and is getting better with the one and two dribble pull-ups. While you want to see High operate more from the mid-post and low-block, he is an active area rebounder. He cleans things up well on the defensive glass. High is a late bloomer, however, someone who has toughness and skill to build on.
