A home matchup with ACC foe Georgia Tech was as good an opportunity as any for North Carolina to get off the schneid and end a four-game losing streak. Late in the game, the Tar Heels were on the way to doing just that, with guard Caleb Love throwing down an emphatic slam to highlight a the get-right game.

With North Carolina holding a 67-51 lead with just fewer than five minutes to play, Tar Heel forward Leaky Black poked the ball loose on the defensive end and started the fast break. Love burst forward down the right side and took a pass ahead from Black, elevating and flushing home the right-handed jam.

“Get up, Caleb!” ESPN color announcer Corey Alexander said on the broadcast as Love threw down the dunk.

The lead ballooned to 18 with the jam and the Tar Heels didn’t give up, cruising to a 75-59 win.

Armando Bacot ties Billy Cunningham for North Carolina career double-digit rebound games record

North Carolina big man Armando Bacot is one of the more accomplished individuals to play for the Tar Heels in basketball — no small feat, given the company on the list. He notched a little higher in the record books on Saturday, tying North Carolina legend Billy Cunningham for most double-digit rebound games in program history with 61.

Bacot’s 61st 10-plus rebound game came as North Carolina snapped a four-game skid by toppling Georgia Tech, 75-59. Bacot scored 21 and pulled down 13 boards to go with an assist.

It’s the fourth double-double for Bacot in eight games played this season. He’s scored in double figures in all eight games and reached nine rebounds in three other games.

It’s a safe bet he’ll be moving past Cunningham to hold 1st place along for double-digit rebound games in North Carolina history.
